Associate Director
James is a railway operations professional with nearly 40 years’ experience in the industry. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Railway Operators. From 1983 he spent 30 years working with British Rail and then train operating companies in operational roles. From 2001 until 2014 he was a board level director at South West Trains, Great Western and Southern of variously, retailing, customer service, operations, and service delivery.
Since 2014 he has been using his knowledge and experience with VA Rail working on franchise bids, as an expert reviewer on timetable assurance, researching and co-authoring a report on train driver productivity subsequently developing new guidance notes for the industry and as an alternate chair for the Network Rail Anglia Route engineering work preparedness panel.
James is also independent chair of the Rail Deliver Group’s Emergency Planning and Incident Care management groups; positions he has held since 2014.
